Emceeing the AI for Human Rights & Freedom Tech tracks at Oslo Freedom Forum.
Would love for your to watch the livestream and see how freedom fighters are using open-source tech to protect their freedom!
Hi friends!
This Wednesday, May 28, I’ll be co-emceeing two exciting tracks at the Oslo Freedom Forum — the AI for Human Rights and Freedom Tech tracks.
If you don’t know much about the Oslo Freedom Forum, it’s an international human rights conference series hosted and produced by the Human Rights Foundation (HRF). It brings together the world’s most engaging human rights advocates, journalists, artists, tech entrepreneurs, and world leaders to share their stories and brainstorm ways to expand freedom and unleash human potential across the globe.
Here’s a preview of what I’ll be a part of (and hopefully you too!).
AI for Human Rights track
Time: 11:30 am to 12:50 pm CEST | 5:30 am to 6:50 am EDT
Dictators are using AI to surveil and repress their populations. At the same time, open-source AI tools have never been more powerful. HRF’s new AI for Individual Rights program aims to harness this potential — steering the future of AI toward openness, freedom, and individual empowerment, rather than closed, surveilled AI models. Learn how we can challenge tyrannical AI systems and promote freedom-based AI tools.
Freedom Tech track
Time: 2:00 pm to 5:35pm CEST | 8:00 am to 11:35 am EDT
Explore how digital tools are weaponized by authoritarian regimes and how they’re harnessed by human rights defenders operating under dictatorships. From Bitcoin to end-to-end encryption, and from decentralized media like Nostr to privacy tools like more robust VPNs, learn how freedom technologies are helping people resist censorship and reclaim their freedoms under authoritarian rule.

In 2023, I had the incredible privilege of attending the Oslo Freedom Forum for the first time (not as staff, but as an attendee). Here are a few reflections from that experience.
Thoughts on the Oslo Freedom Forum.
**Before I start, I want to say a huge THANK YOU to Alex Gladstein (Chief Strategy Officer at the Human Rights Foundation) for his invitation/support to attend the Oslo Freedom Forum. And a massive thank you to Arsh Molu and Alex Li for helping put together what I believe to be my favourite event of the year.
